Sahel

Established on July 2, 2001, the Sahel region serves as Burkina Faso's northernmost administrative area, bordering Mali and Niger. With a 2019 population of over 1.09 million, it is the country's least developed region, ranking 13th out of 13 in the Human Development Index.
