Saramacca

Located in northern Suriname with its capital at Groningen, the Saramacca district spans 3,636 square kilometers and is home to approximately 17,480 people. The region is historically significant as the settlement area for the Saramaka Maroon people, who established communities along the Saramacca River after escaping slavery.
