South Sandwich Islands

Located in the sub-Antarctic South Atlantic, the South Sandwich Islands form a remote chain of eleven uninhabited volcanic islands administered by the United Kingdom. This archipelago, which includes Montagu Island as its largest member, is geologically active and has experienced significant seismic events, including an M 8.1 earthquake in 2021.
