Alto Paraná

Established in 1945, Alto Paraná is Paraguay's second-most populous department and home to the capital city of Ciudad del Este. The region drives the national economy through the Itaipu Dam, which supplies 95% of the country's energy, and serves as a major trade hub connected to Brazil by the Puente de la Amistad.
