Islands Region

Located northeast of the New Guinea mainland, the Islands Region comprises the Bismarck Archipelago and northwestern Solomon Islands. This least populous inhabited region of Papua New Guinea is distinguished by its Austronesian linguistic heritage and the archaeological legacy of the Lapita culture.
