Baalbek-Hermel Governorate

Established in 2003 and covering 3,009 square kilometers, Baalbek-Hermel is Lebanon's largest governorate, encompassing the northern Beqaa Valley and bordering Syria to the northeast and southeast. As the country's most agriculturally significant region, it faces unique challenges from a predominantly Shiite citizenry alongside a significant influx of Sunni Muslim refugees from the Syrian Civil War.
