Gilbert Islands

The Gilbert Islands, formerly known as Kingsmill or King's-Mill Islands, form a chain of sixteen atolls and coral islands in the Pacific Ocean that constitute the main part of the nation of Kiribati. Located roughly halfway between Papua New Guinea and Hawaii, this archipelago is home to a population of approximately 83,000 people and includes the capital city of South Tarawa.
