Shida Kartli

Located in eastern Georgia, Shida Kartli is a landlocked administrative region spanning 5,729 square kilometers with Gori as its capital. While it is the country's eighth-largest region by area and seventh by population, its northern territories have been under the control of the self-proclaimed Republic of South Ossetia since 1992.
