Mtskheta-Mtianeti

Located in eastern Georgia, this region encompasses the historic capital of Mtskheta and its surrounding mountainous landscapes, covering a nominal area of 6,785 km² with a population exceeding 93,000 as of 2021. While the majority of the territory remains under Georgian administration, its western Akhalgori Municipality is currently governed by the breakaway South Ossetia following the 2008 Russo-Georgian War.
