Established as one of the Central African Republic's 20 prefectures, Basse-Kotto serves as the nation's least populated region with its capital in Mobaye. Covering an area of 17,604 square kilometers, this Lower Kotto territory saw its population grow from 249,150 in the 2003 census to an estimated 393,276 by 2024.
