Kirundo

Kirundo, a former northern province of Burundi known as the country's breadbasket, was merged into the new Butanyerera province in 2025 following major administrative reforms. Once a forested region that became the nation's agricultural heartland, its economy has since struggled with poverty and infrastructure deficits after the civil war.
