Zou Department

Named for the Zou River that flows into the Atlantic, this Beninese department is divided into nine communes and anchored by its capital, Abomey. Following a 1999 administrative split that transferred its northern territory to the Collines Department, Zou remains a significant region with a population of over 850,000.
