Ouémé Department

Located in Benin and named after the Ouémé River, this department encompasses the nation's capital, Porto-Novo, and is divided into nine communes. Following a 1999 administrative split that created the Plateau Department, Ouémé remains a key region with a predominantly urban population of over one million people.
