Ashmore and Cartier Islands

Located in the Indian Ocean approximately 320 kilometers off Australia's northwest coast, the Territory of Ashmore and Cartier Islands is an uninhabited Australian external territory comprising four low-lying tropical islands within two separate reefs. Despite its strategic position near the Indonesian island of Rote, the territory remains devoid of a permanent population and is governed as a protected natural environment.
