Ararat Province
Named after the biblical Mount Ararat, this Armenian province serves as the historic home to two former capitals, Artaxata and Dvin, while surrounding the Karki exclave of Nakhchivan. It is also renowned for hosting the Khor Virap monastery, the site of Gregory the Illuminator's imprisonment and the closest point to the mountain within Armenian borders.
